History of Perot’s Island, and its Manor House

Perot’s Island was originally known as “Crumb-Brush Island”, so named for its resemblance to a small curved table brush that was used to sweep crumbs from a table.

It was later renamed “Perot’s Island” (late 1730’s), after William Perot, Bermuda’s first Postmaster General, and designer of a hand-made stamp prized by stamp collectors the world over.

    Owners of note include:

  • Claudia Darrell- famed owner and operator of The Waterlot Inn. This fabulous restaurant has been in continuous operation for over 330 years, and is located a short walk up the lane form Perot’s Manor. Guest Services would be pleased to arrange reservations to this world-class restaurant.
  • Wallace Orr (1937)- Perot’s Manor was built under the careful guidance of Mr. Wallace Orr in 1937. Below are pictures taken 1 year after the Manor was completed.
  • Stanhope Joell
  • Marian Cargill MacMillan
